Rubbed Out

Description

About 12 hours a week, I volunteer at a foundation that provides schooling for urban poor children. Two of the students' daily activities are drawing and coloring, and they're always the most frustrating parts. While the kids have plenty of pencils and crayons to work with, the student-eraser ratio is 15:1 per class. Two lousy erasers (figuratively and literally). Per class. Taken into account that there are morning and afternoon classes, the "true" ratio is 30:1.

I noticed this persistent problem in all of the classes I've handled and decided to at least offset the staggering difference in numbers. One hundred rubber erasers (plus a few more school supplies the teachers need) are all I could afford. They really won't make much of a dent, but I guess they're a start.

On the flip side, the children learn to share. When one needs an eraser, everyone willingly gives it to him/her. It's cute until five kids need one all at the same time. :iconoelplz:

I think the entire world needs more erasers, really. I definitely remember fighting for that one good white eraser haha.

For whatever reason, I really love the colours in this pic--I think I'm going to use it for my next desktop!
And thanks for the badge~ ^^

...yes, I'm one of those people that comments on old gallery stuff haha. ._. Ahh...
